FPS Definitions

Before you go any further, know that the definitions below may not be the most popular use of the word. Many people will even consider the definitions incorrect. I created this page so you can better understand what I am saying and possibly increase your own vocabulary. I may provide my definition, the popular definition, examples or a comment. If you would like me to add or edit anything, please post in the thread titled “ATFO Definitions” *Special thanks to sharigan94 for this idea

Ace

  • Mine - Somebody who is exceptionally good at something particular.
  • Example - He is an ace with a grinder.
  • Popular - Killing almost everyone on the other team by yourself.
  • Comment - This word only belongs in FPS if you are talking about an outstanding pilot of an aircraft…

Auto

  • Mine - Holding the fire button down and not releasing. Auto is short for Automatic.

Broken

  • Mine - A gun in Soldier Front that cannot be damaged any further.
  • Popular - A gun in Soldier Front that is not fully repaired.
  • Comment - Many people say broken even if it only takes 80 SP to repair the weapon. It causes a lot of confusion.

Burst Fire

  • Mine - Holding the fire button down for about 2-6 shots and intentionally releasing off the trigger while the enemy is still an immediate threat.
  • Comment - This is usually done to regain accuracy allowing more bullets to hit the target.

Camp

  • Popular - Defending an area for an extended period of time waiting for the enemy to expose them self.
  • Comment - Great tactic for defending objectives or “high-traffic” areas on the map. Some people consider camping an unfair tactic, ignore them…

Damaged

  • Mine - A gun in Soldier Front that is not fully repaired or broken.
  • Comment - This word isn’t used much. Using it helps prevent confusion from calling everything “broken”.

Flank

  • Your character’s “body” is not in the enemy’s crosshair.
  • Popular - Attacking the enemy from their side or rear.
  • Comment - A very simple and effective tactic to use; if you are playing with teammates, have one group put suppressive fire on the enemy while another group attacks the enemy where the enemy isn’t looking. *If you are in the enemy’s line of site, but not their crosshair, I consider you to be on their flank.

Pro

  • Mine - A person who makes a living doing something.
  • Example - He is a pro Call of Duty player, sponsors pay him to play Call of Duty.
  • Popular - A good player.
  • Example - He is pro because he never dies.
  • Comment - This word gets thrown around a lot to describe advanced players even if they don’t play as a profession.

Rush

  • Popular - Moving as quickly as possible to a destination with no intention of stopping along the way.
  • Comment - This is usually a high-risk tactic because it leaves the player fully exposed, however if you can catch the enemy off-guard, you got them right where you want them.

Single Fire

  • Mine - Releasing off the trigger after firing 1 shot while the enemy is still an immediate threat.
  • Comment - This is usually done to regain accuracy and get more bullets to hit the target.

Spray

  • Mine - The act of firing a weapon in a general direction, not at a specific target. Usually done to provide a distraction or suppressive fire.
  • Popular - Used to state somebody is not using a sniper rifle.
  • Example - I’ll spray next round. (I’ll use an assault rifle next round.)
  • Comment - Spraying is not a good idea to use 100% of the time. If you say you are going to spray next round then that means you are not going to fire at specific targets…

Support Weapon

  • Mine - A weapon that excels in a couple situations, but isn’t the best by itself most of the time.
  • Comment - Support weapons can be the most fun to use. Understand their strengths/weaknesses and you will be a valuable asset to your teamates.

Suppressive Fire

  • Mine - Firing a weapon to keep or move enemies into a defensive position of your choice.
  • Comment - Suppressive Fire can be provided by any weapon. Keep that in mind.
